Designing for Focus: Using Texture to Guide User Attention

Most designers rely solely on typography or spacing to establish visual hierarchy. But textures—when applied gently—can direct the user's attention more effectively than many realize.
Here are three ways to use them:
1. Foreground clarity, background softness
A subtle micro-haze surface behind hero text increases contrast without making the layout heavy.
2. Gradient cues for section transitions
Soft diagonals or radial fades help users perceive movement down the page without breaking flow.
3. Tone modulation for emphasis blocks
Switching to a slightly warmer or cooler texture behind pricing or testimonials makes them pop without harsh borders.
Good texture work should be felt but not noticed. That principle guides every category in the Texaria library.
